Witch's Cove Florida is full of witches, an occasional ghost, and a cute black cat, named Aimee. Whoops. I forgot the star of the show: Iggy. He'd kill me if he knew I hadn't listed him first.
He is Glinda Goodall's familiar, and not a very happy iguana, at that.. No virile, smart, and sassy male wants to be pink, but when Glinda, the witch, was twelve, her spell ability wasn't the best. She'd wanted a cat, but ended up with a pink iguana instead.
And how creative is the name Iggy? He hates it and strives for some respect. Getting a new name would really help.
MEET GLINDA GOODALL
Yes, I was named after Glinda the good witch from the movie The Wizard of Oz because my mother loves everything that has to do with it. And I am a witch too who happens to live on the west coast of Florida in a very unique beach town. Why unique? It's full of witches and rather eccentric people. Take my Aunt Fern, for instance. She talks to ghosts. Do they exist? Well, I haven't seen one, but my aunt swears her dead husband visits her everyday.
And then there is my mother who runs the mortuary. She can communicate with the dead. I have to admit, her intel comes in very handy at times, especially when murder is involved.
As for me? Using a pink diamond (yes, it's a fake) that my grandmother gave me, I can usually tell how a person died. Unfortunately, my findings often contradict that of the medical examiner. As for spells? I try, but thing don't always go according to plan.
My real problem is that I'm nosy and have this obsessive desire to help solve crimes (along with Iggy, who as I've mentioned fancies himself a detective). Am I good at it? Not so much. I often make things worse, but in the end, the sheriff and I do figure out "who did it."
In case you haven't read the first book, let me give you a rundown of what you missed.
The town I live in is called Witch's Cove, Florida, which is situated on the Gulf Of Mexico. The beach is called Moon Bay.
Population? At last count, we had about 2000 residents, but people seem to end up dead here, so maybe a few less. LOL. Seriously, while Witch's Cove does has an abnormal number of deaths, many are out-of-towners. Why so many visitors? The town council has decided to make Witch's Cove a tourist attraction. We have psychics, fortune-tellers, those who can communicate with the dead, and just about anything else you want. Need a love spell? No problem. All things that have to do with witchcraft is here. Not only that, the Gulf Coast beaches are amazing--white sand, clear warm waters, and maybe an occasional shark sighting. But don't let that bother you. If you mind your own business, you'll be safe.
This is a list of who's who in Witch's Cove.
The 5 gossip queens: Aunt Fern, Maude Daniels, Miriam Daniels, Pearl Dillsmith, and Dolly Andrews. More about them in the list below.
The rest of the crazy cast, more or less in order of appearance:
Aunt Fern Goodall (63 y.o.): She's my aunt and owner of the Tiki Hut Grill where most of the action takes place.
Bill Duncan: Former sheriff (or as I call him: Duncan Donut). Why former? Well, he kind of broke the law a few years ago and finally confessed, so he basically stepped down from his position. Plus, after his son(the deputy) was murdered and Bill found out he was a grandfather, his priorities changed.
Penny Carsted- my best female friend. She works the same shift at the Tiki Hut Grill that I do. She has the cutest seven year old named Billy, and she is divorced from Sam, who has issues.
Drake Harrison- my best male friend and Jayson's brother. Drake owns the Howl at the Moon Wine and Cheese store. He has a secret, but I can't tell you what it is yet. And it's not that he's gay.
Jaxson Harrison- Drake's brother who was framed for a robbery he didn't commit. After doing time and staying away for five years, he finally returned home to Witch's Cove. It would be an understatement to say his appearance has drawn a lot of attention--especially from the ladies.
Steve Rocker (I'm still convinced it's a fake name). Current sheriff and Pearl Dillsmith's grandson--which is how he learned about the job opening.
Pearl Dillsmith (78 y.o.): The sheriff's dispatcher and one of the five main gossip queens.
Maude and Miriam Daniels (73 y.o. twin sisters): Miriam runs the Bubbling Cauldron Coffee Shop and Maude runs the Moon Bay Tea Shop across the street. To say they are in competition would be an understatement.
Dolly Andrews (63 y.o.)- She runs the Spellbound Diner and went to school with my Aunt Fern. Dolly and my aunt act as if they are arch enemies since they both made a play for Harold(Aunt Fern's dead husband), but my aunt won. Yay!
Gertrude Poole (88 yo)- She works at the Psychics Corner, as--you guessed it--a psychic. But Gertrude is so much more than that. She was the most powerful witch in Witch's Cove. She'll do a spell every now and then, but she claims she's retired. I don't believe it.
Sheriff Misty Willows (34 yo)--She is the sheriff in Liberty, Florida, about 30 miles from Witch's Cove. She and Steve Rocker have worked together, and I wouldn't be surprised if they became involved in another case. Misty is beautiful, sweet, and competent. And no, I'm not jealous.
Delilah Smithson (26 yo)--Librarian. The two of us went to school together. I helped her with math, and she helped me write my history papers. Having a professional researcher for a friend is really important, especially since I'm always wanting to look into other people's business.
Hunter Ashwell (35 yo)- Or, should I say, Hot Hunter. I might have been interested in the park ranger, had he not been a friend of my father's. When Penny set her sight on him, she jumped on that bandwagon real fast. I, for one, gave her my blessings.
